With the help of Butterfly Eco Ltd, Heber now have a new 21kW solar PV system installed at it’s historic Mill site in Gloucestershire, UK.

Having a ~400 year old grade 2 listed Historic Mill building was always going to be a challenge for any external green power generation, After a number of years discussing options for a waterwheel, water-sourced-heat-pump and a few other green energy systems, we concluded that it was going to be too expensive. We had already ruled out solar panels on the roof, due to the nature of the Mill’s grade 2 listing.
That was until we contacted Butterfly Eco Ltd to ask about ideas for a solar PV install, Matt and Kayleigh discussed all options with us and evaluated the site along with motion of the sun, trees and shading as we are situated in the bottom of the Stroud valley.

It didn’t take long to get a full proposal for the work from Butterfly Eco. The proposal included costs, payback, estimated energy generation and also included a monitor system for the PV install. The discussions started in December 2024 and as Butterfly could start in early February 2025 we went ahead with the project.
It didn’t take long for the team to get everything delivered to our site, erect the scaffolding and start fitting the panels. Just 3 days later and without any disruption to our business, we are commissioned and generating clean solar power, even in the gloomy days of February.

We were able to fit panels to both front and back of the Garage, giving us a total of 21kW power generation. This equated to around 34% of our usage and payback on the installation is expected to be within just 4 years.

It’s now early April 2025 and we have completed our first full month of Solar energy generation. Savings are already well over £500 and we are heading towards brighter summer months.

The solar dashboard gives us a quick overview of the install and power generated along with environmental benefits. We are working towards ISO14001 certification, so this solar install helps us meet our goals towards a more sustainable business.

“Working with Butterfly Eco Ltd has been a fantastic experience from start to finish. The team demonstrated exceptional professionalism throughout the entire process – from the initial consultation to the final installation of our solar PV system. The proposal of work was clear and the quotation came in under budget. Their clear communication, attention to detail, and proactive approach made the project run smoothly with absolutely no disruption to our operations at all.
We all want to say a really big thank you to the entire team at Butterfly Eco, we particularly appreciated how the team went above and beyond to accommodate our requirements while ensuring the work was completed on time and to a very high standard. The SolarFox display has been an excellent addition, providing us with clear, real-time insights into our system’s performance. We would highly recommend Butterfly Eco Ltd to any business looking for a reliable, service-driven solar energy partner.” – Richard Horne – Commercial Director – Heber Ltd.
