Ben is currently in year 10 preparing to study for his GCSEs at Thomas Keble School, Stroud. As part of his placement he will be undertaking hands-on tasks in a number of departments, from research for Sales and Marketing, to shadowing the technical activities of our Engineers.
The Industrial Cadets is an excellent scheme, designed to give young people insight into industry. Inspired by a visit from the Prince of Wales in 2010, British Steel (then called Tata Steel) rolled out the project, starting with just 24 cadets in 2011, they have expanded to over 2,000 in 2015. At their inaugural awards ceremony in March this year, they had 250 high profile guests, and messages from the Prince of Wales himself, as well as Superstar Astronaut Major Tim Peake.
“By giving students like Ben interactive experience, Heber can help young people develop new skills, both personal and professional”. Richard added, “From teamwork, to communication skills, our aim is to cultivate Ben’s employability. But most importantly, to inspire him to realise his future career aspirations”.

The Industrial Cadets programme is successfully countering the stereotype of work experience placements being a burden to companies, and pointless for those on industrial placements. Heber and all the team are looking forward to working with Ben this week. His placement concludes on Friday with an awards presentation of a Silver Industrial Cadets certificate.
