25 Years of the Pluto 5

Heber started creating Pluto boards in 1994 with the Pluto 1 board, achieving a first within the industry by designing and producing a standard ‘off the shelf’ control system. It still remains the only system of its kind. Tony Reynolds, one of the founders of Heber, described the Pluto control systems as controllers that ‘can be used by manufacturers of rides, coin changers, pushers, horoscope machines, photo booths and of course all types of video, pinball and slot machines’.

In 1998 Heber introduced the Pluto 5 board and development kit, as part of the internationally successful Pluto range. As an entry level, low-cost embedded control system, Pluto 5 quickly became the industry standard for spin reel gaming machines. By 2006 500,000 Pluto 5 boards had been sold and it has remained a best seller since its introduction.

The secret of its success is that Pluto 5 is extremely reliable and flexible, a tried and trusted platform that will meet gaming regulations and requirements. Pluto 5 provides you with additional connectivity, extra battery backed memory and even greater security. It also monitors crucial input lines which can allow you to, amongst other things, detect any tampering with the cash box when the machine is switched off.

Although now largely superseded by the Pluto 6, the Pluto 5 is still powering new-build machines today for clients across the world.
