Working in the electronics industry we are aware of our impact on the environment, and are always looking for ways to reduce this.
While Heber is well known for gaming products, we have also been creating electronics for waterflow solutions, ways to lower power consumption and building health solutions since our foundation in the 1980s. These include the design and manufacture of shower units and washing machines which lowered water and energy usage. We’ve created systems which detect changes in water quality, including detecting legionella. We have developed technology which monitors air quality within buildings, and alerting users to any changes, allowing for better use of dehumidifiers, heating systems and ventilation.
Most recently we worked with LeakBot to create an award-winning intelligent water leak detector that uses smart technology to detect leakages on household water installations. Multiple studies have shown that using LeakBot significantly reduces water waste as a result of undetected leaks. We also have quite a few more really exciting projects on the go with a focus on sustainability and reducing harmful waste, but these are secret for now! Rest assured, when we can, we will be shouting about them!
Within our company we also strive to be more environmentally aware. Our products are sent in specially designed product specific carboard boxes, which are fully recyclable. We have significantly reduced the use of plastic packaging, such as component bags, and we are trialling biodegradable plastic wrap for our larger overseas shipments. We are in the process of getting solar panels installed, and have provided electric car and bike charging points for staff. An ongoing project is looking into if we can install a new water wheel on the mill to create hydroelectric power. For the time being however, our energy supplier provides 100% renewable energy.
This year we are proud to be a corporate sponsor of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust, who are working towards putting nature into recovery, enhancing and protecting the beautiful Gloucestershire natural environment.
There are lots of other small ways which we at Heber try to make changes to help the environment, from using shipping companies with clear and active sustainability policies, using UK manufacturers to reduce our carbon footprint, to composting all our food waste from the company kitchen, and using recycled loo roll!
